Work Description: Repair dripping exterior spigot

Comments: Please read full review as to why I waited to review this business until 3/2020. The Repair was executed by one of the company’s plumbers Jan 2018, but invoice was signed by owner confirming the cost $270 for a total replacement of exterior spigot. Since it was January I was very afraid of having any possibility of a leaky pipe or freezing pipe. Work was completed. However, after the winter ended I found damage to an interior wall that was right behind spigot. Found it by the growing mold in the wall. No evidence of pooling water etc outside to show slow leaking pipe. I wasn’t sure really what happened until I called Direct Source again to come see what was causing my brick to be wet.

I had used this plumber for 8 years and really didn’t know how it could have happened they were always very good in the past. The first person they sent out when I called with the problem refused to work on it. He said he “wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole”, but he would get original plumber to come out. When the original plumber came out, the very first thing he said when he saw the spigot and heard what damage was in the wall was, “ I made a mistake and used the wrong pipe. The state changed the requirements recently. It’s only a slow leak.” He then went on to fix the issue. When I showed him the interior damage he advised that their company had a water restoration company they worked with and he felt they could fix it. Even though I was leery of anything this plumber would now say or do-I said Yes., and the plumber left. I was dumbfounded that this plumber and company felt it was ok to cause a mistake and let the customer pick up the total cost for that too. But before I could say anything else. The restoration company was at my house in 45 minutes. They immediately ripped out 1/4 of the wall and all the insulation. Then advised me that it would take three days with special blowers to dry the area correctly. Also that a chemical would be sprayed on the area to stop anymore interior mold from growing. While they were setting up the heater/blowers they asked me what happened. I told them what happened and how the plumber said he made a mistake. Mistakes do happen, but why is it my fault. At this point when I was advised it would cost $400 to just dry out the mess and that they don’t do any other repairs. Then before I could say another word he was on the phone with Direct Source about payment. The Water restoration company got the plumber to pay for their work based on their statement of making a mistake. They did this with out asking me. But when they got off the phone I did advise I had planned on contact the owner about fixing this damage. Anyway the plumber paid the $400 to the water restoration company directly, but said to the restoration company that he “wouldn’t pay one more dime”.

Interestingly I did look up the water restoration companies website and it claims they do water repairs from start to finish. That they do fix walls etc. But they refused to do more at my house. I don’t know if this was over what the plumber said about payment. I just know that when they picked up their equipment three days later I was left with part of my wall missing-a large hole that let me see the wall studs and exterior brick, a chunk of missing carpet where the mold was cut out, and even more of the carpet pad cut out so it was very noticeable of the damage done in this corner.

I was really upset and so I reached out to the owner of Direct Source Plumbing, the same person who signed the invoice-David Brown. I emailed Mr Brown about what happened and I heard nothing back for weeks. I reached out again and no return call. I reached out a third time and Mr Brown took the call. But he was so angry and irrational. He tried to tell me this was all my fault. I wanted to work with everyone since accidents happen, why make matters worse. I told Mr Brown that I really wanted to work with him, for him to come out and see the damage, for him to understand the situation. All he did was yell at me. Told me terrible things all trying to scare me. Even after I explained that I had been very ill and was also disabled and newly divorced and how scared I was of freezing pipes which is why I had the spigot totally replaced and not just repaired/patched. Mr Brown just stayed extremely angry and started threatening me. He told me he had the “State plumbing board in his back pocket”and that he had so many excellent reviews with the BBB that no one would believe me. He said this when I said I would write to the Board and post reviews.
He had me so afraid and crying I was beside myself. He then told me he “would never pay to fix anything ever”.

I finally got all the quotes to repair everything including an antique chest that was sitting in the wet area for how ever long it took for the slow leak to finally come into the house and get about a three foot by 4 foot corner of my room wet. A corner that no one would walk on since it’s a corner where the two interior walls meet and only exterior walls are outside.

I honestly didn’t know what to do. I was extremely afraid based on Mr Browns reaction that he could come and hurt me or my family, even do something to my dogs. I was afraid for how could I pay for the thousands of dollars of damage. I’m disabled, I have zero extra money. I spend thousands on medication each month. And I did nothing wrong. I did nothing but trust a plumber I had used for 8 years when I needed one. And I didn’t even know if I could trust that the so called “fixing to the correct pipe” would be done correctly. I now needed a different plumber to check that it was ok before the wall could be repaired.

In the end, since Mr Brown had me so afraid of trying to even write a review about all this I ended up living with that hole in my wall until I could afford to fix it. That took almost a year. I had towels and cardboard covering the hole in my master bedroom to keep out bugs and towels and blankets to insulate for heat and cold. Then it took more time to get the other items like the carpet repaired-which meant new carpet which I even used a coupon to save some money. I’m paying it off still today. My antique chest can’t be replaced and only time will tell the extent of the damage. For now we have hopefully stopped it from getting worse. It’s over 80 years old.

I’ve tried to take this company to small claims for the damage. But when the Constable went to serve the papers they were told Mr Brown moved. There is no forwarding address even with the post office and Mr Brown hasn’t even updated his master plumbers license with his new address, nor has he updated any official business documents with a new address. And for the record this was before the pandemic virus.

I don’t know any other reason for a business to not update their info unless they are hiding from people. That what they have done to me was unethical and worse. I actually was afraid for my safety from someone who has religious quotes all over his website. But he doesn’t live by what he preaches. I think they are there to scam people into hiring him.
So, I would not suggest using this company or any of these plumbers for any reason. I wasn’t asking for extras. I just wanted my home put back the way it was on that dreadful January day. If anyone reads this and knows of their real address for this company please contact the state of Texas Plumbing Board with it. They are looking for Mr Brown. They are trying to assist with this law suit by helping me locate Mr Brown. The reason the state of Texas requires plumbers to be insured and to be registered is so they can’t take advantage of single, disabled women. I’m still trying to recover from the abuse I took over the phone from this company owner all because I asked him to do the right thing. I shouldn’t be expected to file against my insurance and have my rates increase. I shouldn’t have to live with a hole in my wall for months and months because I can’t afford to do anything but that. Direct Source plumbing could have filed against his plumbing insurance easily. Or I should I choose to fix the damage but not get the medical care I really need.

Since this happened I don’t trust any worker that comes to my house, gives a quote or anything. I’m so afraid that even though I may have done everything right and used a company I had worked with for years, not requested anything extra over and above the cost of the repairs, as a matter of fact I used coupons to save money regardless of who paid.

I’ve decided to put this review out now so no one will ever go through what I did-if you use Direct Source Plumbing and Slab repair. Again, please contact the State of Texas Plumbing Board if you know the new correct address for this company. Because what is listed on their website is not correct. No where have they corrected their company address. If you think that’s not a odd or should be a company that doesn’t want you to find them...Just think if it was you. Maybe they would do the work right. But they could also cost you thousands with no way to get the authorities involved since they seem to try and not want anyone to know where their real address is for both Mr Brown’s home and this business.
Facebook has three different addresses listed at different times, and two different websites, plus the company has had three official names online. Doesn’t that sound fishy?

Work Description: Leaky pipe repaired.

Comments: Original quote was $450. Got it down to $325 after agreeing to forgo warrantee. The job took 30 minutes and $15 worth of material. The guys were very knowledgable and professional but not cheap. I probably won't call them again. Networx was great. So many plumbers called I didn't have time to call them all back which I regret. I will Networx again and maybe next time I will find my personal plumber. I own 3 houses. Jim
