Work Description: New Home Construction
Comments: We used Jason Mostowski of Altex1 Construction to build our dream house and we had issues from the very beginning. I had to make him aware of all of the following items:-The plumbing in the slab was installed wrong for the plumbing in the island and had to be redone.
-The slab is our floor, and the finishers had started too late in the day and had left footprints in 1/4 of the flooring because it was still soft and not smooth. Then Jason taped the floor and left tape marks throughout the house. This resulted in having the floors ground down with 4" hand grinders when it should have been done with a huge 18" concrete grinder to make it even through out the house.
-The plumbing for the toilet in the master bathroom was off by about 8" AWAY from the wall then it should be normally 1" to 2" from the wall. I had to tell him that it needs to be moved but he didn't see the problem with it and said " after a while you wont even notice it".
-I put the counter tops in myself (to save a little money) and it ended up being cheaper than what he quoted/budgeted. I expected to have the leftover of approximately $1,200 to use somewhere else, like to install some lighting outside. He argued that the budget is his and refused to work with me. He said "contractors do not write home owners checks, it's the other way around".
-The AC has 2 exterior air suctions pulling from outside of the house with no air filter connected inline (he said it was code). Not only was the system pulling in 100+ degree air that keeps my AC units running all day because they can't cool properly, but it was also pulling in pollen, dust etc.
-Two doors leak at the corners and Jason has tried to seal them 3 times but they still leak.
-The joints for the siding and trim have failed and separated and refuses to make it right. Our attorneys are talking now to get this resolved. What a nightmare!
UPDATE 3/21/22
I had this builder build my home under the name of Altex 1 construction. I'm giving a one star because people need to know that this builder has left us without a warranty. He will not repair our leaking doors and failed paint joints along with our A/C unit that was installed incorrectly. My wife and I treated him as family, taking him out on our boat with his family and had a great time. He has done sub-par work on the finishing's of our home, wanting to just get it done and avoiding attention to detail. He stopped answering my calls after the build was complete. I had my attorney contact his attorney to get the warranty and completion sorted out. He hid behind his contract saying that the wood joints that have separated from low grade caulking is not considered a failure unless the open separation is more than 1/4". WOW! More then 80% of the house has failed before the end of the warranty. We complained about the separation just 9 months after completion. The warranty on paint is 1 year. Next, our doors have leaked for almost a year. He tried to seal them 3 times. Even though the leaking has been less, water still comes in the house after heavy rain. After our attorneys talked, it wasn't worth the time or money to pursue any further. Oh yah, his contract states that you can not sue him. WOW again. Seemed like a kind and innocent guy.
