Work Description: Expand Concrete Patio
Comments: My over-all rating for the job done to expand my concrete patio is zero stars - but that wasn't an option. I am heartbroken, devastated and pissed off.Below are a few of the reasons why - not enough room to include everything:
The contract was misleading. Requested half of the payment up front and balance to be paid upon completion. However, prior to work being completed, I was asked to write checks to cover "additional costs", without any real proof or discussion prior to cost being incurred. I explained to the contractor that I had set my budget based on what was stated in the contract. This didn’t seem to make a difference. I went with this contractor because it was the lowest bid but turned out to be the highest bid. It appears that a low bid was provided to secure the job and to get me to agree to the contract. Beware, everything that looks like a bargain isn’t.
I am not satisfied with the work and will have to bring in another contractor to fix/finish the job. There are holes/gaps in the concrete around the bottom of the patio and the existing patio was not cleaned thoroughly before adding stain and sealer, Stain and sealer were put in over dirt. I can clearly see the dirt. One coat of sealer was put on when there was to be two coats.
The entire patio will require, cleaning, re-staining and sealing. It has only been a month or less and the color is already fading. Not the beautiful patio I imagined.
After telling me the job was complete as I went through the list of things that were to be done, the Contractor admitted that only one coat of sealer was used instead of two. Contractor stated he forgot to put on the second coat and offered to add another coat of sealer and patch up the gaps/holes with black dirt around the bottom of patio, however, at this point, I didn’t trust that there wouldn’t be an additional fee, based on what had previously happened, more than once. Also, I wasn’t comfortable with having the contractor back in my yard, so I said no to his offer. When I did attempt to discuss additional fees, while being asked for more money, I was told “it’s not all about you” meaning me.
My yard was left in a mess, covered in pieces of concrete and spots of sand (this was after I was told the job was finished and they were done). Clean up and hauling away debris was included in the contact, however, debris was dumped into my trash bins, filling them to maximum capacity. At times, cigarette butts, nails and garbage were left in the yard, which I picked up because I don’t like trash laying around in my yard. My driveway was stained with car oil spots – after I had repeatedly asked that no vehicles be left parked in my driveway.
I received a message on my phone stating the city would be contacted and a lien will be place on my property if I didn’t write an additional check. This cause me more stress as I already felt afraid of this contractor. I believe this contractor to be unjust and unprofessional.
I am upset with myself for being so trusting and dumb. I learned a valuable lesson. I won’t be using this contractor again. Should anyone decide to use this contractor please make sure you get all verbal promises in writing and have a clause in the contract regarding additional fees. Don't make the mistake I made.

Work Description: Evans Construction has done concrete work, fence work, leveled a wall to a warehouse, put in a concrete floor, and completely gutted a store.
Comments: Evans Construction has been doing work for us for 25 years. They are very dependable, shows up on time, and does great work.-
